Substance Use & Addiction Therapy in Summerville & Mount Pleasant, SC

We can help you figure out why you keep being reeled back in—and what to do next.

You don’t have to call it addiction to know it’s a problem.

You’ve tried to slow down, cut back, or stop altogether…but it’s not that simple anymore. Maybe it started as a way to decompress, and now the cravings hit you like a brick. Decisions feel less like choices and more like reflexes. You tell yourself over and over that you’ll skip it tonight, but by the end of the day, you're reaching for it again.

For some of our clients, it's occasional overuse. For others, it’s bingeing, blackouts, or even a past overdose. You might be dealing with withdrawal symptoms, risky behavior, or legal or professional consequences. Relationships feel tense, work is getting harder to show up for, and your own health has taken a toll, too.

You’re not even sure if it “counts” as addiction, but you know something needs to change, because it’s not just a habit anymore—it’s running your life.

“Numbing” the pain only gets in the way of healing it.

HOW WE SUPPORT YOU

Shame, blame, or a label slapped on you doesn’t do much…other than make you feel worse.

We know that, so we focus more on curiosity instead. What is this substance doing for you right now? What’s it helping you avoid or numb? What would it mean to try something different?

In our work, we use approaches like Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family Systems, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help you explore the role substances play in your life, what they might be protecting you from, and how to start building something different. For many clients, we also integrate EMDR to process trauma or memories that fuel the cycle of use.

We want to know what you actually care about—what matters to you, what you want more of, and what you’re tired of feeling.

(Not just what you’re trying to quit.) You’re so much more than a diagnosis or a habit to us—you’re a person who’s been trying to cope. Whether your goal is cutting back, quitting entirely, or just getting through the day without defaulting to the same patterns, we’ll meet you there and help you move forward.

  • No. You don’t have to have it all figured out to begin. If you're questioning your relationship with substances—whether you're thinking about cutting back, trying to quit, or just tired of how things have been—we’ll start there. We’re here to support your goals, whatever they look like, with honesty, respect, and zero judgment.

  • That’s common and often part of the process. If you’re starting to question your relationship with substances, it’s worth exploring. You don’t need a diagnosis or to hit rock bottom to deserve support.

  • We’ll talk about that, too. Sometimes outpatient therapy is enough, and sometimes it’s not. If a higher level of care (like IOP, PHP, or inpatient treatment) feels right, we’ll help guide you through your options and connect you to trusted resources.

  • We work with clients struggling with a wide range of substance use—whether it’s legal, illegal, prescribed, or something in between. That might mean alcohol or medication use that’s gotten out of hand, or a substance you’ve relied on for years to feel calmer or more in control.

Of course, we help you and tailor therapy according to what you’re struggling with, but we’re far less concerned with what you’re using and more focused on why—and how it’s impacting your life, relationships, and sense of self. If it’s taking up too much space in your day, your thoughts, or your identity, we’re here to help you explore that and find a way forward.
